Source of inspiration

From the start of its centuries old history, the city of 's-Hertogenbosch has attracted artists, scientists, thinkers and visionaries, who left their marks on the city. The most famous son of the city is of course master painter Jheronimus Bosch (± 1450-1516). The way in which he was inspired by the city, the surroundings, and the inhabitants, has been followed in many areas. Koning Willem I College continues this valuable tradition in its very own way by being a source and role model for knowledge and culture and by striving for perfection, by continually giving new impulses to the community and above all by being a powerful and inspiring place of learning.

Mission Statement

The student's success is the reason for our being

Just a great school.

We are a community college
We count all talents
We consider creative thinking a core competence
We strive for mastery learning
We go for a better world

Learning from A to Z

After their ABC in primary education, students learn their ABC of life at Koning Willem I College. The journey begins at A, takes them through the lands of primary, secondary and vocational education, and ends at Z - a diploma that matches each one's qualities and ambitions. Thanks to our starting point: made-to-measure education for everybody, our students remain enthusiastic and involved. So working at Koning Willem I College is a privilege and learning is a pleasure, which clearly shows in the excellent facilities and inspiring accommodation - a remarkable mixture of historic and modern architecture.

Central to the community

Our students are not left alone in the dark, they can always meet up with others - inside the college with fellow students, staff and faculty, and outside the college with companies, institutions and other organisations. This means that Koning Willem I College is a true Community College - not an educational island, but a dynamic central point in intramural and extramural learning processes. The college is constantly moving forward, while at the same time maintaining a strong social involvement, which is an important motivator for doing everything in the service of the community, of which the student is of course also a part.

The reason for our existence

All students have their qualities and their dreams. At Koning Willem I College we say: 'If you dream it, you can do it!' Challenging learning processes are necessary to help them make full use of their qualities and realise these dreams. These processes must spur on each student to excel in all areas in which he or she possesses suitable qualities. So a school must be able to guarantee that no single student ends his school career before he has reached the true end. It must therefore be able to guarantee that each student achieves his goals and that top talents can fully develop themselves. At Koning Willem I College we are glad to take up this challenge, because our students are the reason for our existence.

School for the Future®

The educational renaissance of the 21st century will be built on two pillars: creativity and technology. For some time now education has no longer been just a question of knowledge transfer and one-sided attention to logical and analytical thought processes. Today, education is recognised as a process that involves emotions, interaction between the senses, behavioural changes, and creative thought processes. For the development of this 'new education', Koning Willem I College has set up a separate organization - School for the Future. Here high-quality technology and purposeful creativity form the basis for trail-blazing learning processes.

The best a school can be

Koning Willem I College aims to be a school that guarantees its students a pleasant, comfortable, well-planned, and safe stay. To achieve this, social control plays a major part. Also, the college has an anti-racism statute and is extremely alert for teasing and truancy. Furthermore, all buildings are non-smoking, pupils and staff work together to keep the buildings clean, and there is a code of behaviour for both students and teachers - all in all, unity in diversity. We can demonstrate a positive distinction from average schools, not only on account of our good examination results, but also by our well thought-out and inspiring educational vision, and our focussed attention to norms and values. In other words, the best a school can be. And that is precisely what Koning Willem I College aims to be.
